This weekend's gospel presents us with the challenging "act" of forgiveness. If we have ever experience what it is like to be alone in an elevator that is stuck between floors or a locked room, we know that it can be a helpless feeling.

               That is precisely what it can be like spiritually when we do not forgive someone who has hurt us. We become imprisoned in our own bitterness and resentment. It seems like a hopeless situation. 

                There is a way out! All we have to do is ask God to help us. Just call on the Holy Spirit and think about someone in our lives who really needs our forgiveness right now.

               Ask the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with the strength to forgive that person. Once you have done so and forgiven them sincerely from your heart, then you not only free up that person to be at peace, but you are free as well to be the person God wants you to be.
